Monster Fitness opened their doors in November. Located in the Lancaster Marketplace, the 7,000 square foot facility is already undergoing their first expansion. A 4,000 square foot aerobic room is under construction, and plans for 5,000 square feet of additional space are being drafted as well.
Aside from being equipped with all of the standard brand spanking new equipment, along with 8 big screen TVs, the gym’s innovative approach to growing membership is what makes it stand out from other local gyms.
Members can actually earn money by bringing in new clients. The system is the brainchild of owner Richard Caton. “Membership is $40 a month,” said Caton, “but there is no annual commitment, and no initiation fees. And for each member you refer, you will receive $10 back.” The membership includes everything the gym has to offer, including child care.
Caton has seen this approach work successfully in other endeavors, and thought it fit the fitness business perfectly. “It motivates members to stick with fitness,” explained Caton.
Easy to use online software is available to each member to track their referrals. As their referrals grow, so does their account, and eventually they will start receiving checks from the gym. “We have fixed costs, for maintaining and running the gym, and advertising,” said Caton. “As our membership grows, we want members to benefit along with the gym.” That will lead, of course, to additional expansion and more facilities, if necessary.
There is always at least one trainer available for advisement. Trainers are certified and insured, and keep any professional fees
that they generate on their own. “If they have their own clients who are members,” explained Caton, “the gym will not take a percentage
of any additional fees they might be charging.”
The facility is owned and operated by the Caton family. They are long-time residents
of Lancaster – Richard attended Quartz Hill High and Paraclete High, and also operates a State Farm Insurance office.
The public is
invited to the gym’s Open House, on January 20th and 21st. Free food and drink will be available, along with tours of the gym.
