Intern, Graphic Web Designer – Office of the CTO

Role Description:

Are you a Ruby on Rails coder that wants to show us your impressive development skills? Help us develop internal web applications which may be used by the Office of the CTO or by the entire company. You will work with a mentor to apply the latest Ruby on Rails practices to make this application rock! You will spin up development platforms, write code, review code, write migration scripts and push changes to production. You’ll also pick up UI/UX, JavaScript, CSS, SQL and Linux skills along the way. Yes, your eyes do not deceive you; we are looking for an applicant who wants to be involved in the entire web stack from design to front-end development to back-end development to system administration.

What do we do?

• We write and review Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, HTML and CSS
• We chime in on the discussions about the latest gems, databases and other tools available to us and other teams at VMware.
• We support various CTO web projects as needed and managed a diverse portfolio of applications and content.

Some specific web technologies we use are:

• Ruby on Rails
• JavaScript/jQuery/HTML/CSS/Rspec
• Database design and queries (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis)
• Web application architectures and technologies
• Linux, Nginx and Apache

Does this sound like you?

• You are pursuing a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or relevant team.
• You have experience building Ruby on Rails applications and have some experience using JavaScript, CSS, SQL, Git and Linux. JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Linux, Git.
• You are passionate and are willing to grow and share in your web development experience.
• You have strong Photoshop/Illustrator knowledge.
• You have prior experience contributing to an Open source community.
