Retail and quick-serve locations often treat storefront glass as a low-cost static zone. Daktronics new see-through LED displays change that equation by placing bright messaging on the interior side while daylight still reaches the sales floor. Installers now face a narrow retrofit path that avoids full façade work yet still requires clean power, network drops, and careful alignment so the glass plane stays unobstructed.

Glass-Plane Mounting and Depth The 55-inch and 70-inch panels mount vertically behind existing glazing. Frame depth and cable egress become the first field measurements because most storefronts were never designed for active displays. A laser distance meter quickly reveals whether the header clearance allows the 78 mm panel depth plus 25 mm for ventilation; anything tighter forces a switch to the 55-inch model or a custom low-profile bracket. A single panel can stand alone or butt to adjacent units for wider canvases. Side-by-side builds still share the same control head-end, so rack space stays modest even when three or four windows are addressed. Mounts bolt into the existing window frame with 4.5 Nm torque on the M6 fasteners; over-tightening twists the extrusion and opens visible seams at the 2.5 mm pitch.

Centralized Scheduling Across Sites Venus Control Suite handles content for one location or an entire chain. Operators push limited-time offers without reprinting graphics or sending technicians on site. The software tags playlists by region so a breakfast promotion in one time zone does not appear after lunch elsewhere. Network class matters here. A dedicated signage VLAN keeps media traffic off the POS backbone and simplifies firewall rules when the same head-end manages petrol stations in different regions. Latency under 80 ms between the central server and remote players keeps animations in sync across sites during live events.

Multi-Location Labor Realities A typical single-store rollout needs one day for mounting and alignment plus another half-day for content validation. Scaling to ten locations repeats the same pattern but reuses the same show file templates. Field crews report that pre-terminating Cat6 and running a spare 20 A circuit above the window header removes the most common second-day delays.

Edge-to-Edge Alignment for Multi-Panel Arrays When panels sit side by side, vertical registration must stay inside 1 mm across the full height. Installers clamp a straight-edge to the glass and adjust each bracket's lateral slot until the seam disappears under a full-white test pattern. One missed millimeter produces a dark line that only shows after the glass reflects daylight back through the panel.
