Job Summary

The mission of the BYUtv | BYUradio Digital Platform Product and Merchandising Manager is to grow an engaged audience by creating web, app, and digital products that users love. This position will utilize data and research to drive the product strategy and maximize audience engagement of all BYUB digital platforms. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about digital merchandising and curation, digital media products, audience research and behavioral analysis, and growing and retaining an increasingly engaged audience.

BYU’s Digital Media team is responsible for rapidly growing and improving web, mobile app and OTT media distribution. The core of our business has been built around a portfolio of mobile apps with over a million downloads and a compelling catalog of TV and radio shows.

Essential Functions

Serves as product manager for BYUtv and BYUradio websites and apps (40%)
Defines requirements to enhance usage of BYUtv and BYUradio websites and apps
Utilizes feedback from analytics and users to enhance engagement on websites and apps
Works with programmers to make changes and updates to websites and apps to improve brand awareness, viewership/listenership and interactive audience engagement
Works with marketing and programming to align strategic initiatives and campaigns
Researches and analyzes product feedback and implements changes that reflect customer wants and needs
Stay current on market trends and competitive products and strategies
Provides platform and merchandising strategy for digital platform to maximize audience for BYUtv and BYUradio (30%)
Creates and improves the product and merchandising strategy for all digital platforms
Curates website and apps so that all pages, lists and assets are ordered to deliver click-through opportunities for our current and potential audiences
Aligns on-platform merchandizing strategy with off-platform promotion and discoverability initiatives, such as search, deep links, paid promotion, etc.
Keeps the website and apps fresh, attractive and current for potential audiences to ensure that people are discovering new content
Develops and executes strategy to grow audience, retain existing audience, as well as increase the frequency of engagement with websites and apps
Uses analytics and research to measure user behavior and design strategies to maximize engagement
Responsible for developing features and creating content which drives organic growth to our web and other digital properties
Leads initiatives around market and audience research
Promotes content based on recency, seasonality, and other merchandizing opportunities that align with overall brand and network strategy
Works with Programming Department on web promotional strategies and audience retention strategies around pre-rolls, post-rolls, and cross-promotion of content
Works with Creative Services and Marketing to ensure that images and metadata are cohesive to overall brand strategy, digital distribution strategy, and marketing strategy
Maximize engagement with digital platforms (30%)
Increases audience participation with platforms
Increases viewership/listenership of shows
Increases app downloads
Monitors, reacts to, and grows important audience KPIs such as daily user retention, time on site, Response Per Click, organic traffic
Ensures discoverability across all digital platforms and devices
Education/Experience

Minimum required: Bachelor’s in marketing or related field and 2-3 years of experience in product and/or merchandising management, specifically related to the digital platform space
Preferred: MBA or advanced degree in a related field and 3-5 years of experience in product and/or merchandising management, specifically related to the digital platform space
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

Required:

Strategic and conceptual thinker
Understands marketing strategies and human behavior
Understands how users navigate and interact with website, apps, and tv platforms
An eye for UX/UXI concepts and being able to communicate with designers and developers
Understands the entertainment market and how entertainment industry is adapting accordingly
Able to communicate clearly
Able to work with teams to create superior end product
Ability to execute at a very detailed level while keeping the big picture in mind
Strong experience managing digital web products
Analytical; excellent knowledge of Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, and web based KPIs
Previous experience with Content Management Systems (CMS)
Computer savvy and ability to analyze current media products, environments, current/future trends and competition to improve and optimize BYUtv and BYUradio digital products
Preferred:

Basic understanding of HTML and CSS
Experience working in both mobile apps and web-based products
Experience managing designers and developers
Previous history creating a successful website from idea to deployment
