Carlo Ratti is a leading architect, engineer, inventor, educator and director at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At MIT, Ratti directs the Senseable City Lab, a research group that explores how new technologies are changing the way we understand, design and ultimately live in cities. He is also a founding partner of the international design and innovation office Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA). Drawing on Ratti’s research at MIT, the studio develops innovative design projects, merging high-profile architecture and urban planning with cutting-edge digital technologies, so as to contribute to the creation of intelligent cities and buildings.
Daniel Lamarre delivered a compelling Closing Keynote at ISE 2017 and spent time before and afterwards engaging with people from the industry and with the media. His keynote explored how technology drives content and creativity at Cirque du Soleil, where he is President and CEO. For over 30 years, Cirque du Soleil has been at the cutting edge of live entertainment creation and production, with shows such as Quidam, Saltimbanco and Amaluna combining stunning acrobatics, theatrics, visuals and music. Cirque du Soleil has consistently shown how creative expression can benefit from the adoption of the latest audio-visual technologies when used to enhance and compliment a show’s key storylines. Lamarre discussed the creative process and how technology is used to turn adventurous concepts into mind-blowing performances.
In 2016, futurist, scientist and television personality, Michio Kaku, used the ISE Closing Keynote to outline the path towards ‘perfect capitalism’ in a future that he predicts will be more competitive, more convenient and cheaper, as technology changes the way we live. Kaku is a recognised expert in Einstein’s unified field theory and has unparalleled skill in predicting trends affecting business, commerce and finance. He has three New York Times best-sellers – Physics of the Future, Physics of the Impossible and The Future of the Mind – and has been the focus of television specials like the BBC’s Visions of the Future and the Discovery Channel’s 2057.
While the Closing Keynote is a standout part of each ISE, so too is the Opening Address, which has been presented by some very talented individuals. At ISE 2017, award-winning architect, Ole Scheeren, shared his vision of contemporary architectural and urban development, and explored how technology and architectural design combine to influence the creativity of one another.
Wired Magazine’s Editor, David Rowan, moderated a panel discussion about AV and IT convergence, which featured experts from across the industry.
Lars Thomsen, who revealed the trends and tipping points that will impact the electronic systems industry in the lead up to 2025.
