Position: VIDEO PRODUCTION/ASST DIR

As a part of the team that spearheads Central Michigan University’s official communications across a multitude of channels, the assistant director of video production captures and delivers compelling stories about the university.

Under the direction of the director of communications, this position collaborates with other team members, administrators, faculty, staff and students to conceive and produce high-quality, story-driven video projects from concept to completion.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in video production, electronic media, visual arts, broadcast and cinematic arts, digital media or a related field.

3 years experience producing and editing videos.

Strong strategic, visual and verbal communications skills.

Strong technical skills in the area of audio/video equipment, set design and lighting.

Strong hands-on skills with current video, audio, and photo editing software and optimization. (For example: Adobe Creative Suite, digital asset management systems, file types, tools and techniques for optimization).

Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, prioritize, be detail- oriented, meet deadlines and work intelligently in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to turn around creative, high-quality videos on a short deadline.

Experience planning for and managing video production shoots including set composure, lighting, shot angles, camera setup, and talent direction.

Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

An insatiable desire to learn and grow; the ability to stay organized and meet deadlines; proven ability to collaborate across multiple teams; and the ability to creatively communicate across a variety of media.

Proven ability to generate and implement fresh video ideas, while also having the willingness to adopt and pursue others’ ideas.

Preferred Qualifications

Duties & Responsibilities

Produce, shoot, edit video projects.

Visual storytelling across multiple digital platforms.

Contribute creative ideas that will advance the goals and strategies of Central Michigan University and University Communications.

Coordinate the pre-production, production and post-production of video projects.

Evaluate and integrate new technologies, as appropriate.

Collaborate and work with a team of communicators, marketers, designers and interns to brainstorm ideas, storyboard and concept new ideas, and always staying on the leading edge of video.

Schedule, interview prep, scriptwriting, storyboarding, interviewing faculty/staff/students/alumni, etc. on camera.

Lead department’s digital asset management systems.

Assist with production, trafficking and distribution of marketing videos/TV commercials, as needed.

Hire, train and supervise student video interns.
