Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
As a member of the creative team in the Academic Learning Transformation Lab, the Learning Media Specialist will work on media projects for and with faculty. The successful candidate will be able to step into a variety of video and audio production roles and will need to be especially skilled in post-production. The Specialist will be expected to interact with a diverse university population, both in collaboration with faculty on projects and with students doing video and audio field work on campus and on location around Richmond. Specific duties will include:
—Successfully utilize Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Audition software for a variety of different types of media projects
—Work on educational content
—Work on departmental marketing materials
—Set up and strike lighting equipment
—Operate cameras
—Operate boom microphone
—Transport equipment to various locations in the field on and off campus
—Assist faculty who are creating their own media
—Propose solutions on a project basis to address post-production needs of faculty members
—Explain new tools and concepts clearly and with patience to new learners
—Attend department meetings
—Manage digital photography at department events
—Help with event set up and clean up
—Other relevant duties as assigned
Minimum Hiring Standards
Bachelors degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. An educational background in Mass Communications, Film, Electronic Communication Arts, or a related field is preferred.
—Advanced Adobe Creative Suite skills.
—Notable experience working on a project using Adobe Premiere.
—Notable experience working on a project using Adobe After Effects
—Notable experience working on a project using Adobe Audition.
—Experience in video production.
—Experience in audio production.
—Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
—Proven ability to work as a crew member on collaborative projects.
—Ability to explain new tools and concepts to faculty who are new learners of media production
—Ability to work in and foster a diverse environment and commitment to representations of equality as part of a creative service for VCU’s diverse population.

Preferred Hiring Standards
—Demonstrated experience with WordPress is preferred..
