The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Project Coordinator. The Project Coordinator supports the Public and Media Relations team at National Center and NYC with core responsibilities on the Online Newsroom/multimedia team, reporting to the team lead. Primary responsibilities include assisting with website management and analytics for the online newsroom; as well as with social media news site, and will be responsible for maintaining good relations and the flow of information and communications services to the news media, the public, AHA/ASA affiliates and key volunteers in all communications. Also assists in the pre-planning and the on/offsite execution of certain newsroom operations at AHA/ASA scientific meetings throughout the year. Other responsibilities include:
The Project Coordinator supports the Public and Media Relations team at National Center and NYC with core responsibilities on the Online Newsroom/multimedia team, reporting to the team lead. Primary responsibilities include assisting with website management and analytics for the online newsroom; as well as with social media news site, and will be responsible for maintaining good relations and the flow of information and communications services to the news media, the public, AHA/ASA affiliates and key volunteers in all communications. Also assists in the pre-planning and the on/offsite execution of certain newsroom operations at AHA/ASA scientific meetings throughout the year. Other responsibilities will include:
AHA/ASA Online Newsroom and Password-Protected Newsroom: Serve as one of the key Administrators for the AHA/ASA Online Newsroom and the Password-Protected (embargoed) Online Newsroom (PPN).
+ Upload and distribute weekly journal news releases, proactive comments, media advisories and news kits for all scientific conferences via the online newsroom (CMS) and to other distributors including EurekAlert and Alpha Galileo (accessing and uploading into their private/password-protected customer management systems.)
+ This includes uploading (minor editing, as needed) and posting of related multimedia and documents in the online newsroom and for use on distributed content.
+ Post content (described above) on the password-protected (embargoed) online newsroom for media and via the newsroom social media account.
+ Create newsroom calendar content and social media content based on strategic monthly programs/activities.
+ Update and maintain science news content and functionality for the AHA Newsroom and newsroom social media account.
+ Provide analytics reports, collect and analyze information about site usage for the social media account and, as needed, for the newsroom.
+ Assist in the electronic approval, denial and registration process for the newsroom and manage meeting registration for AHA/ASA conferences as needed.
- Scientific Conferences: Assists in the pre-planning and the on/offsite execution of certain newsroom operations at AHA/ASA scientific meetings throughout the year.
+ Assist with logistical arrangements for the News Media Center at Scientific Sessions.
+ Assist with registration and housing and onsite-registration for journalists for AHA/ASA scientific meetings.
+ Organize production set up, dismantling, packing and shipment for all news materials for scientific meetings.
+ Travel to Scientific Sessions and other scientific conferences as assigned by Supervisor.
Project/Administrative Support: Provide project/administrative and organizational support to Newsroom supervisor and other managers as assigned.
+ Provides a high quality of excellent customer service to the news media, leadership, staff, volunteers, and the public.
+ Assists with telephone coverage and other collaborative departmental activities as assigned.
+ Plan and execute projects assigned to ensure timely completion.
+ Respond to media inquiries.

Required Experience
+ High School Diploma or Equivalent
+ Two (2) years of related experience in journalism, public relations/media relations, marketing and advertising
+ Experience working on website content, specifically creating/building content on the back-end of the website and its distribution, as well as experience with new media and social media.
+ Experience with post production software such as Adobe Photoshop (Creative Suites Production Suite helpful).
+ Strong computer literacy with MS office and other MS programs, (MS SharePoint, MS Dynamics, helpful.)
+ Strong project management skills; Demonstrated competence and success in prior assignments, proven project management and personal integrity are required.
+ Professional knowledge of communication systems and practices.
+ Professional business presentation skills; Strong oral and written communication skills.
+ Problem solving techniques.
+ Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to meet and interact with the news media, and all levels of AHA staff, public, national volunteer leaders and external vendors.
+ Must be flexible in ability to handle multiple projects including unexpected projects and urgent deadlines.
+ Ability to travel on commercial airlines and to take out-of-town business trips including multi-night stops.
+ Drive for results: proactive; balances analysis with doing; committed to organizational goals.
+ Teamwork: collaborates with others; acknowledges others’ contributions; gains support and commitment from external parties; promotes collaboration and facilitates teamwork.

Preferred Experience:
+ College degree in journalism, communications or public relations is required.
