Position: Materials Engineer

This position is responsible for the development of new and improved metal alloys through sintering development and metallurgical analysis. Designs, experiments, and initiates processes for the manufacturing of metals as they relate to various product applications.
– Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops new alloys through through extensive testing and analysis of efficiency characteristics and performance of various metals.
- Develops feed stocks for alloys through extensive testing and analysis of efficiency characteristics and performance of various metals.
- Conducts Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and recommend process changes.
- Develops and improves thermal processes for various alloys.
- Troubleshoots manufacturing process problems, resolving issues and implementing corrective actions to prevent re-occurrences.
- Stabilizes and optimizes material Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) program to reduce false material/product reject rates.
- Creates standard work instructions and trains individuals involved in the work process.
- Manages material development for new product development.
- Performs Tensile Testing and Analysis on various materials to determine tension strength and material behavior.
- Conduct metallographic studies (rough grinding, fine grinding, polishing and etching) to determine if product material has been processed correctly in an effort to determine reliability and in the case of failure, reason for material failure.
- Conducts micro-indentation testing to determine material hardness.
- Works with quality control inspectors to determine material hardness.
- Conducts material density testing through the use of water testing or a Pycnometer.
- Collects and analyzes material data after various processes such as de-binding, grinding and polishing are completed.
– Education, Experience & Training:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Material Science or Powder Metallurgy
- Preferred master’s degree in Material Science or Powder Metallurgy
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in powder metallurgy
- Certification in Six Sigma – Green Belt Preferred (CSSGB)
