Position/Job Summary

Perform a variety of specialized engineering support duties in the repair and maintenance of equipment, set up and operation of equipment and facilities and the design, fabrication, installation, testing, troubleshooting and operation of television & media production equipment, networks and systems.

Position/Job Responsibilities

1. Repair, service and maintain studio cameras, video servers, production switchers, internal networks, video monitors, test gear, video tape recorders, portable cameras, technical infrastructure components, presentation equipment and other technology as required. This includes designing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures and maintaining parts inventories. May assist other engineers with work in other areas of specialty.

2. Design, specify, install and test new systems and facilities for the Roy H. Park School of Communications and assist in providing consultation services to other schools and departments of Ithaca College regarding video equipment and related technologies.

3. Provide assistance and counsel to faculty members regarding available facilities and various methods, technological trends, processes of production, and equipment characteristics and operation. May assist faculty in instruction on usage of specific pieces of equipment in class or in special sessions.

4. Assist in providing counsel and advice to students, in cooperation with faculty, regarding technical procedures and standards, equipment operation and capabilities, resolution of production problems, and technological trends and issues.

5. Demonstrate operation of production equipment as required by faculty, including development of proficiency test standards and operations procedures necessary for personal and equipment safety, and maximum quality of outcome during use.

6. Supervise and coordinate technical operations during productions. This includes supervising remote production work and functioning as “Engineer-in Charge” for the college remote production vehicle, supervising equipment connections, electrical safety and remote operations procedures.

7. Train and instruct student engineers; monitor work performance for accuracy and completeness to ensure compliance with established standards.

8. Serve as backup to the transmission systems engineer assuring legal operation and providing for maintenance and repair as required of FM transmission facilities and intra campus RF & cable transmission systems.

Position/Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and extensive experience repairing, servicing and maintaining various digital, audio, video and RF radiating equipment and systems or the equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Knowledge of television production operations, computer networks and digital circuits, strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills is required.
