Publisher of consumer health magazines and books is seeking a highly motivated, smart and energetic Production Artist with 5 years of experience. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills are critical.
The Production Artist will be creating, preflighting, reviewing, editing and revising files in InDesign, QuarkXPress, and Acrobat, and then formatting the files for release to print vendors. Knowledge of prepress, offset and digital printing, and experience photo retouching for print and web is required. You must have a strong knowledge of file formats and best practices for print production. Prior magazine layout experience required.

Responsibilities
* Manage magazine production from layout through file release to vendors
* Prepare final artwork for other print projects, ensuring that files are created to specification prior to releasing to vendors
* Quality check advertiser-supplied art files and proofs for accuracy
* Review and archive all incoming files and communicate any needs to the production manager
* Maintain a history of layout revisions
* Stay aware of production deadlines and manage time accordingly
* Work closely with design and editorial to implement changes in a timely manner
* Other duties as assigned
Requirements
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite 6 (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop), QuarkXPress, PitStop, Suitcase and Microsoft Office on a Mac platform. HTML knowledge a plus
* Magazine page layout experience: working with sections, master pages, paragraph and character styles in InDesign
* Photo retouching for print and web
* Knowledge of the printing process and prepress experience, able to create print-ready PDF files
* Excellent communication and organizational skills
* 5 years of experience as a Production Artist
* Precise attention to detail is a necessity
