10:00AM: Connecting with Wider Audiences Through Brandless Branding : An ever-growing number of public and private spaces are adding large-scale video walls and architecturally integrated visual displays to attract attention and establish brand identity through generative art and other forms of immersive content. These video displays serve a dual purpose of boosting a brand’s connection with a wider audience and opening venues up to more public use. How can installations like these represent the attributes of a brand in a way that goes beyond logos? What elements of brand story or experience should be explored in the content creation process? Can these be considered public art works? How are brands working with local creative communities to showcase more work?
10:30: Influencing Behavior and Enhancing Experience with Audio : A look at the physics of sound, the evolution of human hearing, and the science of manipulating the former to leverage the latter. How can we take an empathetic, outcomes-first approach to audio system and content design. It begins with ‘How do we want the audience to feel?’ Then we apply that to the practical question of ‘How can we use audio to help trigger the desired emotional state?’ A unique look at how to create truly immersive audio experiences that envelope listeners in an emotional experience. Combined with application-based proof that including immersive audio in the initial design phases of a project allows you to achieve these effects at one-quarter the cost of bringing it in at the end.
11:00AM: Reimagining Retail with Insights from the Experience Index : What makes a retail experience great? Gensler’s Experience Index is the result of a multiyear, mixed-methods research effort to gain a holistic understanding of what makes a great experience and the impact of design on experience. Our findings show that, far from the ‘death of retail’ predicted, we are in a new age of commerce and because of this we must reimagine our view of the traditional retail store. We’ll discuss why consumers gravitate to some stores and brands over others, and recommend specific design strategies retailers can implement to improve the customer experience. We’ll also share stories and images from some of the best retail projects to connect the research directly to real-world examples.
11:30AM: Translating Live Event Technology for Pop-Up Retail : Retail is reinventing itself through pop-up events, and each brand wants to outdo the competition with the most unforgettable experience. When a client asks for something that even they can’t really describe, how does the design process proceed? What live event technologies help to make big ideas real? What new production and staging designs are required? And how can you build something completely conceptual and yet real?
1:00PM: Developing a New Method for Technology Layering in Buildings : How can buildings be designed strategically to accommodate the people inhabiting them and the various life cycles of the technology they need? Building technologies have life cycles anywhere from six months to 10 years. Is there a way to manage this and make it easier to make a building more responsive to these changes in the short and long term?
