Leidos has a career opening for an Ocean/Mechanical Engineer located in Poulsbo, WA. Position requires US citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Join a team of talented ocean and mechanical engineers to take ocean hardware systems, and/or systems of systems, through prototype research and development, initial production, and future full-rate production work. The Ocean/Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, and installation of underwater cable systems, pressure housings, buoys, and mooring systems. Projects will primarily focus on the design, manufacture, and deployment of underwater cable systems for transmitting underwater acoustic hydrophone data. Additionally, the position may involve working on project teams for the planning, building, integration, and maintenance of a variety of subsea systems. The Ocean/Mechanical Engineer will perform as a member of a multidisciplinary engineering team, with responsibility for timely completion of tasks under the direction and supervision of a Senior Ocean Engineer. Will perform tasks to completion semi-independently after receiving technical direction, be able to suggest solutions to technical problems, and serve on a design review team. The engineer will also prepare and/or review proposed Engineering Change documents, test plans, and test reports. Will interface with members of engineering teams, configuration review teams, Quality Assurance, and procurement personnel to define and resolve testing and production issues.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Ocean Engineering or other related discipline and 2-4 years’ total experience.
- Experience with underwater/marine engineering and the unique applications of working in a maritime environment.
- Finite element analysis of mechanical designs, software optional.
- Working ability to operate OrcaFlex software.
- Extensive experience with SolidWorks software.
- Working ability to operate MathCAD, Matlab, and other analysis tools.
- Engineering experience with undersea hardware system development and production.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Requires US citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical/Ocean Engineering or other related discipline.
- Experience with installation and recovery of Navy or other maritime assets.
- Experience with cranes and weight handling operations at sea.
- Evaluation of the suitability of maritime assets for meeting project requirements.
