South Carolina Public Radio, a vibrant media organization located in Columbia, SC, with eight stations broadcasting statewide, seeks a Production Assistant to assist in the research and post-production of news content covering South Carolina. The position will be based at the main offices in Columbia and will require a worker with excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills.

News content will include coverage of South Carolina’s ongoing recovery from the historic flooding in October 2015 as well as regional stories with state-wide impact and national importance. Candidates should have the ability to travel to sites to assist with interviews and will work closely with reporters on editing and post-production, including adapting broadcast stories for web and social media.

The position has great potential for professional growth and entry into the field of broadcast journalism. As a producer of national radio programs, including Piano Jazz , the news content created for South Carolina Public Radio will be held to a high standard. South Carolina Public Radio’s skilled staff has developed a working relationship with NPR News, providing content to the national newscast and the news magazines.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A high school diploma and experience or additional education in the production or specialty areas of production of radio or television programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, or English/Writing with at least one (1) year of experience in a related field, such as an internship with a media organization. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must demonstrate strong writing skills and the ability to craft

stories that translate across media, from radio to web, print-media, and video.

A writing sample is required.
