About the Role:

In this senior technical role, the person will not only have broad responsibility for the delivery of our native mobile and video applications and their associated back-ends and platforms, but also play a foundational role in determining how those solutions will be built, brought to market, and managed for maximum performance and availability. The person will also need to have passion and expertise for delivering full-stack solutions at large scale and the ability to context switch and work at strategic, architectural, and operational levels where required and is willing to provide 24×7 production support.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for engagement with Product Management, Development, and Quality Engineering to provide guidance on Operability, Release and Configuration Management, infrastructure and application capacity management and provisioning.

  • Create, maintain, and document tools and automation for handling system state and operational excellence across a complex global infrastructure.

  • Capacity Management for all tiers across multiple applications

  • Design tools, create runbooks, and provide training for operations staff responsible for providing 24×7 site up services for the application portfolio.

  • Design, Implement, and maintain monitoring to provide complete transparency to application and system state, history, and trends.

  • Act as an escalation point for operations staff members and be the resident expert for your technology portfolio.

  • Engage with technology teams across Oath to share best practices and leverage Oath tools and codes for reuse as effectively as possible in support of the engineering portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of production engineering related experience, ideally with a BS degree, preferably in Computer Science

  • Expert level experience with Unix operating systems, including the ability to performance tune the OS and applications suites

  • Strong scripting skill in one or more scripting languages such as: Python, Ruby, Perl or Bash

  • Strong knowledge of Amazon Web Services like EC2, AutoScaling, Cloudformation, VPC’s, IAM and S3

  • Strong knowledge of IP networking, DNS, load balancing and CDN’s

  • Strong troubleshooting skills in heterogenous computing and networking environments.

  • Strong automation experience in monitoring, alerting and deployment

  • Strong knowledge of how video streaming, encoding and transcoding work

  • Experience with various AWS technologies

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Gomez or other equivalent industry standard tools

  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, and/or other tools in production environments at scale
