The core of Blackmagic Design’s philosophy is to help true creativity blossom, and since its 2001 inception, the company has very much upheld this core principle that further paints it as a leading innovator in video technology. Blackmagic Design has led the creative video revolution by ushering in a rapid growth that has enabled it to become one of the world’s leading innovators and manufacturers of creative video technology.

Blackmagic Design‘s main focus ranges from quality and stability and where they are needed most. In its near 2 decade history, the company has created some of the most talked-about products in the creative video technology industry. One of these products, The ATEM Constellation 8K live production switcher, is of no exception when providing the highest quality video content for the industry.

ATEM Constellation 8K And The WE Festival

On Monday, October 28th, Blackmagic Design announced that its ATEM Constellation 8K live production switcher had been used as part of an Ultra HD 12G-SDI and fiber live production workflow at the WE Fest. The WE Fest is an annually held three-day country music festival. It takes place on the first weekend of August at the Soo Pass Ranch in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. It is the largest country music festival in the United States as well as the longest-running one in the world.

The ATEM Constellation 8K Features

The ATEM Constellation 8K functions as an Ultra HD live production switcher with many features that enable a user to have access to:

  • 4 M/Es, 40 x 12G‑SDI inputs
  • 24 x 12G‑SDI aux outputs
  • 4 DVEs, 16 Keyers
  • 4 media players
  • 4 multiviewers
  • 2 SuperSource
  • Standards conversion on every SDI input

When switched to 8K, all these features can be combined to make a powerful 8K switcher, which also provides users with built-in talkback and a professional 156 channel Fairlight audio mixer with EQ and dynamics. Having a Fairlight audio mixer can allow a user the chance to connect and usefull Fairlight audio console. The ATEM Constellation 8K also serves as an ideal upgrade for ATEM Television Studio.

The ATEM Constellation 8K And Upstage Video

The ATEM Constellation 8K is the heart of a new flypack from a Pennsylvania based full-service video production company called Upstage Video. Upstage Video includes Blackmagic Design’s Smart Videohub 12G 40×40 router, ATEM 2 M/E Broadcast Panel and more. The Ultra HD 12G-SDI and fiber flypack were specifically built for the concert touring and music festival industry. They were also used for switching and video distribution for WE Fest’s two 17’ x 27’ on stage screens and 12’ x 21’ front of house screen, as well as for closed-circuit distribution and simulcasts in the VIP campsites and vendor areas.

In designing the flypack, Upstage Video needed a switcher that was capable of handling a substantial workflow and that’s where the ATEM Constellation 8k switcher came in handy. By equipping 24 assignable 12G-SDI outputs to the ATEM Constellation 8k Switcher, Upstage Video was able to reduce the amount of required routing. In addition to that, Upstage Video also used a built-in Fairlight audio mixer to embed the analog audio feed from the stage mix into the videos for recording, as well as the closed-circuit TV feed.

Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO

Blackmagic Design‘s core slogan illustrates that the company’s main purpose is to provide “whatever it takes to give creative editors and designers the very best quality tools.” When looking at the company, their success never ceases to revolutionize the creative video technology industry. The ATEM constellation 8 k is just one of the many incredible video products Blackmagic Design has introduced to an industry that continues to evolve as the demand for higher quality video grows at an exponential rate. Other Blackmagic Design products include the DeckLink capture card, which had been launched back in November 2002. The introduction of this device had single-handedly made working in true 10-bit uncompressed video on a Macintosh OS X™ system an affordable reality.

The ATEM Constellation 8k and the DeckLink card are among Blackmagic Designs’ many market-leading products. Blackmagic Design CEO, Grant Petty stated that Blackmagic Design is dedicated to allowing the highest quality video to be affordable to everyone, so the post-production and television industry can become a truly creative industry,” and with an array of products as efficient as the ATEM constellation 8k, then the company certainly has no trouble in living up to that core philosophy.
