Job Summary
The Manager of Operations and Strategy (MOS) will work closely with the Director of Operations and Strategy (DOS) in all areas of the DOS’ direct supervision, including, but not limited to: Business Development, Business Intelligence, Radio, Production and Post-Production. Additonally, with a focus on operations, this position will work across different groups and departments to analyze and improve existing processes and organizational structures. Candidate must possess the skills to make, build consensus for and implement bold changes to achieve breakthroughs in improved efficiency and productivity and harnessing creativity throughout all of BYUB. All of this informed by a deep understanding of BYUB’s mission and vision and with an eye to increasing the audience for BYUtv and BYUradio by helping to deliver an enhanced and optimized entertainment experience.
Essential Functions
Work with multiple departments to create and implement strategies to grow BYUB’s audience (40%)
Work with Business Intelligence on quantitative and qualitative analyses of current programming performance, existing and aspirational audience’s content preferences, and overall performance in comparison with other similarly situated broadcast networks.
With strong research support, help Programming as they make content acquisition and scheduling decisions
Work with Marketing in qualitative research to deeply understand what messaging resonates most effectively with both the existing and aspirational audiences. Assist in efforts to regularly and intensively measure performance of Marketing efforts
Work with Digital Media in qualitative research to analyze digital apps and platforms to better understand the effectiveness and reception of user interface and user experience
Work with Business Development to formulate and enact strategies to grow and improve BYUB’s distribution footprint across cable, satellite, and vMVPD (Hulu, YouTube TV, etc.) platforms. Also help to formulate and enact syndication and international distribution strategies for the organization
Analyze BYUB generally and assigned portions of the organization more specifically to pinpoint breaks, challenges and opportunities in organizational structure, processes and personnel (40%)
Determine baseline productivity across the organization to use as a benchmark to measure improvement
Work with senior management to better understand opportunities maximize the efficiency, productivity and creativity of their working groups and direct reports
Break down silos throughout the organization with a focus on making collaboration more robust across departments and working groups
As assigned work with mid-level and junior management as a coach and mentor to improve management skills with an eye toward building strong leadership and ownership at all levels of the organization
With organization and group goal achievement in mind, work with different departments to better understand how their efforts contribute to these goals. Encourage strong goal setting and accountability among individuals, groups and organization wide
Make BYUB’s work with external production partners and vendors more efficient (10%)
In coordination with Accounting, deeply understand the onboarding and payment processes and protocols for external vendors
In coordination with Business and Legal Affairs, analyze historical deals to understand the breadth of deal terms across different working relationships and then build standard deal terms BYUB will generally propose in similar working relationships moving forward
Assist Business and Legal Affairs in building a form contract database to help expedite the contracting process
Assess technology needs that will make BYUB more efficient and professional in building it’s product and introducing it to the audience (10%)
In coordination with Engineering and Digital Media, assess adopted technology to determine whether it is the right technology, whether it is incorporated appropriately and being used to full effect
Work with production to assess the physical production spaces in the building to ensure that spaces are being used as productively and efficiently as the space allows, including assessing technology adoption in our physical spaces (e.g., whether conversion of some studios to virtual production space is in the best interest of the organization)

Education/Experience
Minimum required:
BA/BS in Business (preferably Strategic Management, Supply Chain Management, etc.) Communications, or other related field AND 4+ years of management, consulting or other related business experience.
Preferred:
Master’s Degree (preferably in Business) AND 7+ years of relevant work experience.
Minimum qualifications:
Ability to evolve strategy based on research, data and industry trends.
Knowledge of multiple functional areas such as Product Management, Operations, Business Development, Business Intelligence, Strategy, Finance or Marketing.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to achieve strategic goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
Experience with product management with a focus on software products and technologies for television
