Responsibilities:
To assist the Associate Designer in completing major projects related to brand and marketing at Virgin Galactic, with an emphasis on apparel. This position will source product, create sketches and brainstorm ideas, and organize branded product inventory and samples.

At times, this position will assist the Associate Designer with day-to-day tasks such as scheduling, project management, procurement and sourcing, sampling, and product research. The ideal intern is someone who can adapt to changing environments and conditions, can wear many hats at any given time, and who is quick on their toes and can multi-task.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Collaborate with Designers on branded product design and maintaining and managing the Virgin brand.
  • Handle a multitude of requests for product and marketing materials from colleagues and be able to support in a timely manner.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of current and past designs and be responsible for tracking changes/additions.
  • Serve as liaison between Designers (and Supply Chain team when necessary) to ensure information flow is accurate throughout the development process.
  • Be able to research and brainstorm ideas to support the design process and be able to source and procure those ideas to bring products to fruition.
  • Organize and maintain product inventory.

Software Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe CS6 or CC Suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Proficiency in OS X and Apple products preferred.
  • Experience with interactive design software such as Sketch preferred.
  • Experience with SketchUp preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

  • Interfaces professionally and works effectively in group settings.
  • Takes direction and constructive criticism well and is able to make changes and additions accordingly.
  • Solid understanding of the design process and production process.
  • Has a creative and innovative design ability tailored to the brand aesthetic and client.
  • Strong hand sketching and CAD ability.
  • Willingness to learn and improve.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Highly organized and has capacity to anticipate change.
  • Must be able to lift 20lbs and be willing to drive to Mojave when/if necessary.

Education

Required: currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited university.

Ideally: a rising Junior, a graduating Senior, or a first year graduate student with a top notch education including a high GPA (3.5 or above preferred), relevant coursework, impressive work and internship experience, a high GPA, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Project Work

Have a strong track record of leading project teams and innovative projects in school, at work, or in the community.

ITAR Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
