JOB OBJECTIVE:
PBS Education provides PreK-12 educators with access to free digital content and professional development opportunities designed to improve teach effectiveness and student achievement. PBS KIDS is the No. 1 source of media content for preschool teachers and a leading place parents turn to for preschool video online, with content proven to improve critical literacy skills in young children.

The Assistant Director, Research supports the creation and maintenance of a proprietary online community of U.S. educators who are users or potential users of PBS education content, the PBS Learning Media website, PBS-sponsored educator training, and other education resources. The Assistant Director also contributes to the maintenance of a subgroup of PBS KIDS content users (parents) on the PBS Viewers Like You proprietary online community. The incumbent plays a key role in survey programming, sampling, data analysis, and report development, under the supervision of the Director, Custom Research.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Coordinate with PBS’s survey platform vendor on portal design and URL registration for the new PBS Education Panel; perform monthly updates to the panelist portal, including development and programming of Quick Polls and updating content units in the portal.

Work across departments and with the Director, Custom Research on screening criteria and optimal panel distribution for the Education Panel.

Assist in the construction of the Education panelist profiling questionnaire, as well as sample design and recruiting

Develop and implement panelist engagement plan for the Education Panel.

Collaborate with other Strategic Insights, and Education, and PBS KIDS staff on individual projects’ design, including gathering assets, editing, programming, testing, sample selection, and survey deployment.

Prepare topline analyses and assist in in-depth reporting (e.g., tables, brief overview document, analyses of verbatim comments, presentations, etc.) .

Manage quarterly email newsletters to Education panelists based on recent panel projects, PBS Education news, PBS programming, etc. to engage participants and close the feedback loop.

Contribute PBS KIDS-related results, news, etc. to quarterly Viewers Like You email newsletters to engage participants and close the feedback loop.

Manage Education panel operational maintenance in conjunction with platform vendor tech support and Customer Success Manager to ensure solid panelist support, answer direct panelist questions, etc.

Maintain project planning calendars, and coordinate cross-departmental team meetings.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Monitor for other educational and children’s media studies, both internal and external.

​‪‪ MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as social sciences, math, research methods, education, economics, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
3 years related work experience, preferably in a position requiring skills in survey design and programming, communications, education or children’s content development, project management, and/or administration.

SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Strong familiarity with online survey tools

Combination of experience with and/or interest in the field of education and/or children’s media

Very strong detail orientation

Excellent project logistic and planning skills.

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Strong ability to juggle multiple tasks, manage priorities, and work efficiently under multiple deadlines.

Comfort working independently, as well as in cross-departmental teams

Helpful, customer-focused attitude

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work with people at multiple levels of the organization

Ability to explain data with clarity, both in writing and verbally

Strong customer service orientation and skills

Demonstrates enthusiasm, as well as interest in learning and personal development.
