INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY DESIGNER/DEVELOPER

REPORTS TO: Interactive Technology Project Manager

OVERVIEW:
The Interactive Technology Designer/Developer is primarily responsible for planning, designing and developing technology-driven experiences for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis visitors, mobile technologies for use onsite and offsite, and websites to support content and marketing goals. The incumbent is a creative leader, working with internal colleagues in experience development, marketing, and other departments to create appropriate web and interactive technology that meets museum goals, objectives and strategies for family learning. The Designer/Developer works in concert with graphic design and technical programming, as it relates to digital media and web.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads the design and development of world-class interactive technologies for exhibits and online initiatives in conjunction with staff colleagues: a. Designs and develops technology-driven exhibit experiences, participating in each phase of the project from storyboards and prototypes to functional design to launch. b. Designs and develops educational and promotional mobile apps -including phone and tablet apps for iOS and Android operating systems.

Assists in designing and implementing analytics tools to determine the effectiveness of interactive technology deliverables as it relates to family learning.Observes and measures guest interaction with exhibit interactives, assessing data with team to determine what works to create the best family learning experiences.

Conceptualizes exhibit games and activities working with exhibit and programs staff to ensure they reflect sound instructional design principles and meet family learning and instructional goals.

Participates in user testing by developing paper and functional prototypes, conducting one-on-one user testing and participating in focus groups to ensure the effectiveness of interactive technology deliverables.

Assists other departments in the design and development of digital technologies that include interactives, apps, videos and integrated social media engagement tools that function across onsite, online and mobile experiences.

Researches emerging technologies and stays abreast of industry trends in order to make recommendations that continually improve the quality and efficiency of interactive technology deliverables.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in computer technology or related field.

Five years’ experience in design and development of interactive technologies.Strong K-12 educational technology expertise utilizing instructional technology preferred.

Five years’ experience in web design and development.

Strong technical skills with proven expertise in creative media technologies, including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite, HTML5, , Unity, HTML/CSS, Javascript, PHP and 3-D design/animation software such as 3D Studio Max.

Strong graphic design and illustration skills with proven expertise.

Familiar with and competent in utilizing video editing and post-production tools such as Premiere and AfterEffects.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work with diverse teams on conceptual, intellectual and artistic development of technology components/activities for galleries and the museum website.

The ability to work effectively with outside contractors.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to view computer monitor, computer reports, and all technical manuals.

Must be able to communicate extensively and effectively via telephone/TDD, one-on-one conversations and conduct public presentations.

Requires extensive use of computer keyboards, PDAs and other technical equipment.

Candidate must have the ability to tolerate local and national travel, and sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to concentrate, focus attention and ignore distractions.
