Broadcast Project Engineer

The Broadcast Project Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day support and integration of technology at all broadcast stations nationwide. We are searching for a focused, detail-oriented, and dynamic technical professional to ensure that we have a high quality, consistent transmission in each DMA and a distribution platform that conforms or exceeds FCC and company requirements. This hands-on position has a very heavy emphasis on project management and requires a complete understanding of the technical operation of a television station. The position will work with a team and have the opportunity to manage field staff in execution of relocation of broadcast facilities, station acquisitions and technology upgrades.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Experienced broadcast engineer and manager skilled in transmission systems design and broadcast facility construction;
* Proficient with propagation software used to create signal mapping and interference studies;
* Execute electrical and mechanical calculations such as electrical loads and distribution, power factors, heat loads, transmitter TPO and ERP;
* Antenna system design and FCC knowledge would be a plus;
* Propose and create system designs, specifications and illustrations to align the broadcast model with our strategies and visions;
* Interact with vendors, contractors, landlords, local municipalities and other staff to design, implement and execute broadcast system construction related projects;
* Upgrades and/or maintain broadcast related equipment at all ION stations;
* Operate and troubleshoot broadcast related equipment standard to the industry;
* Analyze information and data to problem solve and make decisions;
* Some travel required at times – to complete requirements gathering and ensure project progression;
* Other duties as assigned;
REQUIREMENTS
* Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training or work experience;
* 5 years of experience in television broadcast engineering;
* Track record in multi-task project management in a technical environment;
* Knowledge and/or familiarity of IOT and solid state transmitters (UHF and VHF), transmission systems including combiners, filters, antennas and line, high voltage, tower structures, and microwave STL equipment;
* Ability to perform transmitter proofs, line sweeps and other electrical measurements a plus;
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team setting;
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
* Ability to communicate highly technical concepts in a nontechnical manner;
* Ability to remain focused and multi-task during multiple emergency off-air situations;
* Must be able to meet deadlines quickly while maintaining attention to detail;
* Proficient with standard office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook);
* Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business and technical publications, professional journals, white papers, instructional manuals, schematics and technical procedures;
* Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
